It is still snowing. Nine inches of it. Fresh and untouched, piling softly and steadily outside. The world is brilliantly white and all day I’ve been awed by the gentle wonder of this storm.
We put the girls down early tonight and I’ve been sitting by the fire, reading from a favorite book about Advent. (Believe me, this is the first time I’ve sat by a fire and read anything since the boys were born. It feels luxurious.)

One of the reasons why I like being Catholic is that we are much more into candles, the festive calendar and things to represent it, ;-). So Advent is very much about these little things that add to it being a special time.
Here's a picture of our "Adventskranz" — the candles are for the four Sundays before Christmas, you light one the fourth Sunday, two the second and so on.

(My oldest daughter decorated it, btw.).
Also, in Austria there is a tradition that the night before Advent you take your Adventkranz to Church to have it blessed.
I hope you are going to have a very good, blessed Advent!

Corinna – that's a beautiful tradition. Thanks for your insight into celebrating Advent. I love that your oldest daughter did the decorating!

i swear we are sisters from different mothers – what a second i guess we kinda are 🙂
i have totally be intrigued by Advent for the past couple of weeks…i did alot of research and i was really looking to start a new family tradition & something that was focused more on the savior amongst all the super fun christmas activities that of course we all love..
after my search i complied a advent countdown complete with bible versus, quotes, and daily family activities – something flexible & fun and something that i can see our family really growing into. i totally jumped on board with the candles…the girls & i made our own advent table wreath and we lit our first candle tonight during dinner – the candle of hope. it was pretty awesome. ill have to post some pics so you can see!
luved the pottery barn advent tree! when you have been eyeing it for awhile, you sometimes just gotta get it!
Let the Advent begin…who's excited!?!?!
