I’ve been thinking so much about angels this Christmas.
For the last month I made angels my topic of study in the Bible and other additional scripture. My questions? How do they interact with us? What are their capabilities? How involved can they be in our mortal lives? I prayed for understanding before opening these sacred books. And God is so good. Not only does he teach through the words of prophets and apostles in holy writ, He teaches us by our own experience.
Don’t you love this piece of art by Annie Henrie Nader? It’s called The Messenger. It depicts so perfectly an experience I had recently with my Mom.
Since losing her, I have longed to figure out this new place of communication with her. I’ve been trying to differentiate between God’s spirit and hers. His voice and hers.
And I am learning much.
I’m sharing a story and some of the things I’ve learned at Segullah today.
It seems appropriate in this season of angels, to think on them more. We speak of angelic annunciations, of angels filling the skies above Bethlehem. We hang angel ornaments on our Christmas trees, grace our walls with art that depicts their Presence.
How I cherish this piece by Kershisnik that was mailed to me as a secret alm. If it was you, and you are reading, here is where I placed it, in our living room, framed by my friend Emily. I look at it every day and find strength in the power of this beautiful image. Thank you. Thank you again.
Also in my piece at Segullah, are some words about my Uncle Richard. The newest angel in our family. He passed away last night, in the most gentle way. Which is how it should have been as he was one of the most gentle, long-suffering, and faithful souls I have ever known. He was always kind, always a gentleman.
My Dad’s oldest brother. His comrade in childhood. His dear, dear friend.
I am sad for my Dad. So much loss this year. And yet, when I think of all those angels, those special people I love who would have come to take Dick home, I want to clap for joy.
More at Segullah today.
And more about Christmas coming soon. I hope yours was glorious and peaceful, and full of love.
Adri
